A Brighter Beginning for Families

When a baby is born needing extra care, the experience can be overwhelming for parents. Conditions such as jaundice often require phototherapy, a vital treatment to help newborns recover and thrive. Traditionally, this has involved placing babies under bright lights, away from their parents for extended periods, an approach that, while effective, can be distressing and disrupt those first precious moments of bonding. ASU Staff Take on Three Peaks Challenge to Improve Patient Care

Healthcare staff from the Acute Stroke Unit (ASU) are preparing to take on the demanding Three Peaks Challenge on 26 July in a fundraising effort to enhance patient care. The dedicated team will climb the UK’s three highest mountains in just 24 hours, pushing themselves physically to raise funds for much-needed equipment that will directly benefit their patients. Rotary Clubs’ kind donations help fund Sensory Trolley for A&E patients with additional needs

Paralympic hero brings inspiration as he unveils life‑changing rehab bike at Royal Lancaster Infirmary

Colleagues working in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI) celebrated the official launch of their new over-bed rehabilitation bike with Paralympic gold medallist, Stuart Robinson MBE. The equipment, which enables patients to begin rehabilitation in a hospital bed, was unveiled during a special visit by Stuart who cut the ribbon and shared his own inspiring recovery story with colleagues and patients. Bay Hospitals Charity are delighted to fund a new trolley costing £612.08.

Volunteers at Westmorland General Hospital are much happier to be able to use a modern ergonomic design which aids manual handling, resulting in more volunteers being able to operate it as opposed to the older/bigger trolley which was more difficult to manoeuvre. Read more

Charities fund LUCAS devices for Emergency Departments

The Friends of RLI and Bay Hospitals Charity have funded LUCAS chest compression systems for the Emergency Departments at Royal Lancaster Infirmary and Furness General Hospital respectively. Each device costs £12,000 and colleagues at RLI and FGH have highlighted the immediate impact, as the devices have already been utilised in emergency situations. Read more
